Event Type: One-Day Rope Education Intensive
About Hanksgiving
Hanksgiving is a day devoted to learning, connecting, and celebrating rope in all its forms โ from artistry to partnership to technical skill. Our lineup offers something for every experience level, with classes for riggers, bottoms, and curious learners.
Class List
Suspension 101
Ms. Reemah + Tay | Requires 101 Knowledge
In this class we will explore how to build suspendable harnesses, creating and placing attachment lines, and important body mechanics to consider for the top and bottom during suspension. This is an advanced beginner class for those who have a firm grasp on the foundational aspects of rope bondage.
ROPE SCIENCE! Collaborative Bondage Theory
Milk + Ash | Open to Beginners
Have you ever stepped foot inside a space or dungeon and thought, “Wow look at that suspension, I wish I could pull something like that off.” Similarly, we all watch our favorite rope practitioners, models, and creators and conclude, “I don’t think I will ever be able to tie like that.”
OBSERVATION – Milk and Ash think all Shibari students share two things: self doubt and the knowledge from our lived experiences in bondage!
HYPOTHESIS – With that in mind, they have conceived that we all learn and advance faster in a collaborative setting. If you have been to your local rope lab/rope bite get ready to take that to a whole new level.
EXPERIMENTATION – Bring your Kit, your friends, and get ready to illuminate the mysteries of the universe… Well at least the mysteries of why that harness/transition/sensation you keep trying to create never quite turns out “right.”
The Intoxicating Unbinding
Milk + Ash | Open to Beginners
When we tie a presence is built. As the physical scaffold of emotional bonds become woven, we find ourselves holding or being held. Shibari tells a story of connection through rope that can be felt even when all physical touch has disappeared. In this class, Milk and Ash will guide participants through honoring the unraveling of said tether. As the rope leaves the body, the ritual of presence and tangible connection remain. Touch, movement, sound, and sensation help us return to ourselves, one another, and to the physical world around us. The Intoxicating Unbinding is a practice of honoring connection all the way through, savoring the interaction down to the last look and touch.
Climb Every Mountain
Steelringmaybe + Meat | Requires 101 Knowledge
Need somewhere to sit? In this class, Steel and Meat will explore the idea of human furniture. From floor rope through partials and into full suspension, they’ll show ways to make a bottom more useful. These ties can include some climbing on your partner, both on the floor and in suspension, but we’ll also lab some utility bondage for holding objects.
The (Updated) Lavender Harness
Ms. Reemah + Tay | Requires 101 Knowledge
TK fatigue is a real phenomenon… so are shoulder injuries and limited range of motion/flexibility in the shoulders. In response, we created the Lavender Harness as a way to accommodate a person’s body and general inclusivity with chest harnesses. In this class we will teach this harness, including theory of construction, considerations, and demonstrate how to build and use. This is a hands-on class. Must know single columns and have 2.5 hanks of rope.
Web Logic Group Project
Steelringmaybe + Meat | Requires 101 Knowledge
This class will cover the basics of building and suspending in a web, and we will build a collaborative web together as a class.
